Sainsbury’s launches AI-powered Smart Lists in its app
Sainsbury’s has introduced a new AI-powered way to shop in its app that helps customers to plan their shop, build a shopping list, find products more easily in store and stay on budget.
Called Smart Lists, the feature lets customers create a list by typing or by taking a photo of the items they need. It then matches the list to real Sainsbury’s products, including those with Nectar Prices, so shoppers can compare their options and get the best value for their budget. Items can be added straight to the trolley for online orders.
Subscribe to TRBSaisnbury’s said a list can start with something as simple as “ingredients for spaghetti bolognese”, or a photo of a handwritten list, rather than adding every item one by one. The retailer said the aim is to make planning a shop quicker and easier.
The app also includes a built-in product finder, which helps customers locate items in stores.
The launch is part of a wider upgrade to the Sainsbury’s app. SmartShop has been integrated into the newly unified app to create a simpler, smoother shopping journey. Online grocery orders, ChopChop, SmartLists, In-store SmartShop and enhanced Nectar experiences have now been brought together in one place, so customers can access more of Sainsbury’s services without switching between apps.
Ben Edge, director of product at Sainsbury’s said: “We know our customers are busy and want shopping to feel simple, joyful and easy to fit around their lives. SmartLists is designed to take the effort out of creating and buying a shopping list, whether customers are typing, speaking or taking a picture of what they need.
“Alongside this, by bringing more of our services together in one app, we’re making it easier for customers to plan their shop, build their basket and find products in store, however and whenever they choose to shop with us.”
