Lidl launches ‘Lidl Christmas Everybody’ Slade parody starring Shaun Williamson
Lidl has launched a new social-first Christmas campaign in the run-up to its festive advertising.
Entitled ‘Lidl Christmas Everybody’, the campaign is a parody music video of Slade’s Christmas hit ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’. It features Shaun Williamson, best known as Barry from EastEnders, and brings together a host of familiar British faces.
Subscribe to TRBWilliamson takes centre stage in the video and provides vocals for the festive track. Using humour and nostalgia, the campaign aims to capture attention and build brand affection ahead of Lidl’s official Christmas advertising launch.
Capital DJ Kemi Rodgers, comedian and Strictly spin-off host Abi Clarke, and football pundit Chris Kamara make cameo appearances.
Created with social agency Coolr and media agency OMD UK, the campaign will include social partnerships with Archbishop of Banterbury and Pubity. The wider campaign will roll out across TikTok, Meta and YouTube Shorts.
Jo Eden, senior consultant for social media at Lidl GB, said: “With Lidl Christmas Everybody, we’ve taken a much-loved festive favourite and given it our own playful twist. Christmas is all about bringing people together, having fun and celebrating the little things that make the season special.
“Working with Coolr, we wanted to create something that feels distinctly British, distinctly festive and most importantly, distinctly Lidl.”
