Aldi and Deliveroo trial rapid grocery delivery at eight UK stores

Aldi is teaming up with Deliveroo on an eight-store trial of on-demand delivery.

The trial will start in Aldi shops in Norwich, Ipswich, Tamworth, Letchworth Garden City and four stores in Kent. It will also expand to further stores in early 2027.

The partnership will enable customers to shop a range of Aldi products, including fresh produce, meat, seafood, dairy, bread and household essentials, as well as Aldi’s middle-aisle Specialbuys, with all delivered on demand.

The partnership will operate under a brand new service from Deliveroo called Shop & Deliver, where participating riders will pick, pack and deliver directly to doorsteps to enable Aldi staff to focus on their usual work in-store.

Shop & Deliver is modelled on a similar, established capability operated by DoorDash, Deliveroo’s parent company, in other geographies, including with Aldi in Australia and the US.

Riders will be  guided through each order via the rider app, scanning each product using their phones. They will also be able to flag any unavailable items before paying with a prepaid Rider Card.

Deliveroo will be making the new service optional for riders. Those operating in the initial locations will receive guidance on how it works.

Giles Hurley, chief executive at Aldi UK, said: “We’ve always been committed to bringing low prices to as many people as possible, and this partnership with Deliveroo allows us to do exactly that without changing how our stores operate.

“The DoorDash model has been incredibly popular with Aldi customers in Australia and the United States, and we know from our previous trials there is clear demand for more affordable groceries on a rapid delivery platform in the UK.

“By working with Deliveroo, in this unique and efficient way, we can give more people access to Aldi quality and value, however they choose to shop with us.”

Rob Harris, VP merchant and chief revenue officer at Deliveroo, said: “We are excited to welcome Aldi to the Deliveroo platform through a brand new service, Shop & Deliver.

“Consumers in several locations across the country will soon be able to enjoy Aldi’s great value and selection delivered to their doorstep on-demand.

“For riders, Shop & Deliver is entirely optional, offering an additional way to earn outside of busy mealtimes which may suit those who choose to ride alongside childcare or another form of work.”

Earlier this week, Tesco announced that it had launched nationwide on Deliveroo following a successful trial.

Aldi stores participating in its trial include:

  • Victoria Road, Ashford
  • Cherry Tree Avenue, Dover
  • William Frost Way, Norwich
  • Hines Road, Ipswich
  • Avenue One, Letchworth Garden City
  • Zion Place, Margate
  • Friary Place, Strood
  • Glascote Road, Tamworth
