M&S steps up store rotation programme with a £300 million investment

M&S will be investing £300 million in launching sixteen new, nine extended and twelve revamped stores in the current financial year as it accelerates its store rotation and renewal programme.

All of the stores will feature the retailer’s latest format with bright, welcoming entrances, wider aisles and modern shelving displays.

The expansion includes 12 new foodhalls, two full-line stores, and two outlet locations. Among them are the previously announced full-line stores at Bath Southgate and Bristol Cabot Circus, as well as new foodhalls opening in Bell Green Sydenham, Abingdon, Cannock, and Farnham.

Over the past year, M&S has signed 47 agreements for new and renewed stores set to open by the 2028 financial year – more than in the previous three years combined. The retailer is  continuing to identify new locations with over  300 sites now being considered for new stores across the UK.

M&S chief executive Stuart Machin said: “This year we are stepping up the pace of our programme and investing over £300 million to rotate and renew stores across the country.

“We have a rigorous strategy to make sure we have the right stores in the right places, and this year we will deliver 37 new and renewed stores with the best of our food, fashion and home and beauty to our 32 million customers.”
