John Lewis opens online Christmas shop after early search surge

John Lewis has opened its online Christmas shop after recording a surge in early festive planning this year.

The retailer said searches for ‘Christmas’ at johnlewis.com rose by 33% immediately after the end of the World Cup, which meant the spike came three weeks earlier than in 2025.

This year, John Lewis is bringing back its popular Santa’s Tea Parties in a selection of stores, which include a special story time hosted by Santa and his elves and visitors being offered hot chocolate, festive treats, and a special gift.

The retailer has also revealed that 70% of its Christmas range is pre-lit this year, due to growing demand for “effortless elegance.” The highlight of the collection is the “showstopping” Aylesford Super Pre-Lit tree, which has over 4,200 bulbs, the most lights the retailer has ever had on a pre-lit tree.

Cydney Ball, head of Christmas at John Lewis, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to officially launch our Christmas shop online. This year, we’re helping customers craft a truly magical home, from trees adorned with heirloom-inspired decorations to thoughtful, curated gifting.

“My personal favourite? Our enchanting collection of felt mice! Whether they are inspired by nostalgic past times, festive treats, or iconic pop culture figures, these charming characters are the perfect way to add a touch of whimsy and wonder to your tree.”
