Mountain has spent the last six years working with Morrisons, most recently as category director for its £1.2 billion Impulse division. Prior to that, he worked with Asda for over nine years in a variety of senior roles.

Jess Frame, managing director of Halfords Retail, said: “We are delighted to welcome Lee to Halfords and to our retail leadership team. He brings extensive commercial and retail experience, a strong understanding of customers and an impressive track record of translating strategy into sustainable growth.

“Lee’s collaborative and people-focused approach will be a real asset as we continue to strengthen our motoring and services offer, deepen our supplier partnerships and make it easier for customers to access the products and services they need.”

Mountain said: “Halfords is a business that people see as synonymous with all things motoring and cycling. It has a rich legacy, and I am incredibly excited to join the team as the business enters the next phase of its journey.”

In the 52 weeks to 27 March, Halfords grew its revenue to £1.76 billion, up from £1.71 billion in the previous year, while underlying pre-tax profit rose to £45.4 million from £43.4 million, as its Fit for the Future strategy gained traction.
