Muji Europe to appoint administrators

The European arm of Muji, the Japanese clothing and homewares retailer, is to appoint administrators.

With a pre-pack deal expected to be agreed, the retailer said the move is part of a planned restructuring and that the business will continue to operate as normal for the time being.

Muji has stores in London’s Carnaby Street, Covent Garden, Tottenham Court Road, Oxford Street, Kensington and Islington, as well as one shop in Birmingham.

A Muji spokesperson told TheBusinessDesk.com: “This is part of a planned strategic restructuring of the business and Muji’s management expects to conclude a deal shortly.

“For Muji’s colleagues and customers in Europe it is business as usual – all stores and ecommerce will continue to operate as before, and all new and outstanding orders will be fulfilled.”

Established in Japan in 1980, Muji has a philosophy of  ‘No Brand Quality Goods’ and sells functional products with a simple aesthetic. Its ranges span fashion, homewares, stationery and beauty items
