Gap Inc appoints chief growth officer and CEO of Banana Republic

Gap Inc has appointed Asheesh Saksena to the newly created position of chief growth officer.

Due to take up his new role in January, Saksena’s responsibilites will include executing the company’s strategic agenda and leading growth initiatives.

His previous roles include being president of Best Buy Health where he led the brand’s diversification into digital health after serving as the company’s chief strategic growth officer. Prior to that, he led strategy and growth initiatives at Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable.

Gap Inc has also announced that Sandra Stangl will join the business as its new president and chief executive of Banana Republic.

Stangl’s career has included working for 23 years at Williams Sonoma where she held numerous leadership positions including president of Pottery Barn Brands. She has also previously worked as president, chief merchandising and new business development officer for Restoration Hardware and as chief merchant of MINE, a disruptive pure-play home business that she co-founded. She will take up her new role next month.

Sonia Syngal, chief executive of Gap Inc, said: “Gap Inc. has significant opportunity to grow our purpose-led, billion-dollar lifestyle brands through the power of our platform, sophisticated end-to-end capabilities and by harnessing the advantages that come with operating a portfolio that targets 80% of the addressable apparel market. With the addition of Asheesh and Sandra, two strong industry veterans and proven creators, I have even greater confidence in our ability to deliver against our Power Plan 2023 as we steer the company into the future.”
