Claire’s closes all UK and Ireland stores with the loss of 1,300 jobs

All Claire’s stores in the UK and Ireland have stopped trading after the accessories retailer fell into administration twice in one year.

Administrators at Kroll have announced that 154 shops have closed and more that 1,300 staff members have been notified of redundancy.

However, 350 concessions, many of which are in Asda stores, will remain open. The move will also not affect the head office.

A spokesman for Kroll said: “As of April 27, all Claire’s stores in the UK and Ireland have ceased trading.

“All store employees have been advised of redundancy.

“We understand an interested party is in discussion with a number of landlords with a view to taking new leases for some of the sites.”

Claire’s collapsed in January just a few months after the retailer was rescued out of administration by private equity firm Modella Capital.

At the time, Modella said the retailer faced challenging high street conditions as well as “highly adverse” government fiscal policies and continued cost inflation. Claire’s has also suffered due to competition from cheaper online rivals such as Temu and Shein.
