Central Convenience Stores appoints operations director

Central Convenience Stores has appointed Dave Lenz as operations director as it forges ahead with its growth plans.

With 60 stores across the south and south west, the chain is to add a further 60 stores by the end of 2016 and aims to be operating 300 stores, both managed and franchised, within the next five years.

Lenz has more than 30 years’ experience in the convenience store sector, most recently as regional manager for McColls.

He will be responsible for ensuring the company’s procedures and operations are able to cope as the business evolves and grows over the coming years. This will include driving sales and controlling costs.

Lenz said: “There are both exciting and challenging times for the independent sector as consumers change their buying habits and continue to look for alternatives to the large supermarkets. Central is well positioned to take advantage of this and I’m very much looking forward to playing an integral part in the organisation’s growth. It has a strong innovative regional brand, as is evident by its increased presence in the marketplace and the positive reception is gets from consumers.”

Ringwood based Central Convenience Stores was founded in 2012 and operates traditional convenience stores, a garage forecourt operation and newsagents.

Central’s commercial director Tony Start said: “Having the right people in place is one of the most important elements of our ambitious growth plans and we are delighted to welcome Dave on board. He brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge which will be of huge benefit to both Central’s managed estate and our franchisees.”
