Tesco launches online grocery shopping service in Prague

Tesco has launched an online grocery shopping service for customers in Prague, the first in its Central European business.

The new service will offer the supermarket giant’s Czech customers over 20,000 lines of fresh and frozen food and groceries, as well as non-food items such as toys, stationery and accessories. The launch follows a successful trial with customers and staff in November.

The launch is also pioneering the online platform that Tesco has developed to enable it to launch its online grocery business across multiple countries.

Ken Towle, director of internet retailing at Tesco.com  explained: “We’ve used our learning and experience from our existing online operations in the UK, Ireland and South Korea to create an innovative IT platform that is industry leading and scalable.”

He added: “This will form the basis of our online food shopping proposition across the Group, as we look to introduce this to other markets over time.”

Tesco will initially operate from three stores covering the Prague region and will eventually offer online shopping in other regions.
