200 jobs at risk at Carphone Warehouse head office

Carphone Warehouse has confirmed that 200 roles at its head office could be at risk as it carries out a strategic restructure.

The positions likely to be affected by the restructure are understood to include marketing, operations and support roles at the company’s head office in Acton, west London.  The restructure could also result in the loss of a ‘handful’ of jobs at its support centres but in-store retail jobs will not be affected.

A Carphone Warehouse spokesman said: “We’ve seen many changes to our business over the last 12 months including the closure of our UK Best Buy stores and operations.

“Our focus is now on getting back to our mobile heritage in order that we can capitalise on the smartphone revolution and concentrate on what we do best.

“For these reasons we have decided to re-organise our business and create self sufficient and autonomous markets, including a fully independent UK and Ireland business.

“Unfortunately this will result in number of roles at our north Acton head office and other support centre functions being put at risk. We are working hard to redeploy as many of those affected roles as possible. Our stores and retail employees will not be affected.”
