Stanfords announces major new hires

Travel book retailer Stanfords has made a number of major new appointments across key strategic areas of its business.

In the first, Brian Finch has joined the main board as finance director and company secretary after working on a consultancy basis for the company for over a year. He will be responsible for the financial reporting and management of both Edward Stanford Limited and Edward Stanford Group Limited.

In a second appointment, Edward Davies has become Stanfords’ new e-commerce manager and, following a review of the current e-commerce business, will oversee and manage a number of major changes to the operation.

Meanwhile, Iain Betterton will join the business later this month as buying and product development director from The Science Museum Group. In his new role, he will head up the buying team and have responsibility for growing and developing the range of products under the “Edward Stanford” banner.

In the final appointment, Dan Lewis will join Stanfords next month as marketing, events and PR manager. Having previously worked with Waterstones, Lewis will be responsible for raising the profile of the Stanfords’ brand through an expanded events programme, an enhanced social media presence, and the development of strategic partnerships. He will also oversee the day-to-day marketing operations of the business.

Stanfords’ managing director Tony Maher said: “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Brian, Mark, Iain, Edward and Dan to Stanfords. These appointments considerably strengthen our management team and will be instrumental in further developing the Stanfords brand and business across all areas of its activities. These are exciting times at Stanfords and I am thrilled that they have decided to join us.”

Earlier this year, Stanfords appointed Mark Prisk MP to its main board as a non-executive director.
