Stoke-on-Trent’s Unity Walk gets green light

Planning permission has been secured for the 435,000 square foot Unity Walk retail and leisure development in Stoke-on-Trent.

Realis Estates is planning to build the scheme on the site of the town’s East West Centre and the former bus station. The development will be anchored by Marks & Spencer and Next as well as a 10-screen The Light Cinema.

Securing planning permission means that Realis will be able to move forward with discussions regarding the relocation of the existing occupiers of the site as it looks to get vacant possession. Demolition of the existing scheme is expected to start later this year.

The new Unity Walk scheme has been designed by the Benoy architecture practice.

Duncan Mathieson, managing director of Realis Estates, said: “Securing planning approval for Unity Walk is a fantastic result and a major milestone towards making our vision a reality. We will now work hard to relocate the existing occupiers so we can begin demolition as soon as possible.”
