Mills Group boosts competitive advantage with Torex

New systems join existing Torex Power-POS for convenience platform

Mills Group is to implement Torex Workforce Management and Torex Business Analytics across its entire estate of 82 local convenience outlets, including five larger supermarket-format stores recently acquired from Somerfield.

The deal marks the first time Mills Group has used dedicated business Analytics and electronic time monitoring systems. Mills Group already uses Torex Power-POS for convenience and the addition of the new systems extends its seven-year-long relationship with Torex.

The new solutions will support Mills Group’s ambitious expansion plans by helping improve its offering to customers. Torex Workforce Management will help streamline in-store management processes, allowing staff to devote more time to serving customers. The insights gained from analysing shopping data with Torex Business Analytics will help outlets meet customer needs more effectively.

Following a successful trial at Mills Group’s Whitley Bay store, Torex Workforce Management is now going to be rolled out across its entire UK estate. Automating the paper-based time and attendance tracking processes currently used in Mills Group stores, the solution will free up manager time, ensuring that resources can be more usefully employed in serving customers. Mills Group is confident that the improved data quality the new system delivers will make it pay for itself within three months.

Torex Business Analytics will help Mills Group maintain an edge in the highly competitive convenience market. By analysing in-store data to assess which products and promotions are most popular with shoppers, managers will gain a better understanding of both local markets and wider consumer trends. The Business Analytics solution will also support the opening of five larger-format convenience stores formerly owned by Somerfield, helping Mills reach out to a greater range of shoppers.

Mike Hodgson, IT Director at Mills Group, comments: “As a business that has continued to grow in recent years, it has been essential for us to have a powerful and reliable POS system to support our development. Power-POS for convenience has proved to be an excellent solution for us, and Torex a valuable partner. We are now looking to build upon the strength of our existing systems, and believe that the dedicated workforce management and analysis solutions offered by Torex are the best option to achieve this. The improvements brought by the new technology will help us develop stronger, more streamlined processes, and offer a range of goods and services that more accurately reflects the needs of our customers.”

Helen Slaven, Vice President Retail, Torex, added: “Our work with Mills Group over the past nine years has enabled us to build up a strong partnership, and we are pleased to be extending this with the implementation of our dedicated Torex Workforce Management and Business Analytics systems. Together with Power-POS for convenience they offer a strong, integrated technology solution that will support Mills Group as it expands both the number and range of stores it offers. We look forward to the continued success of our partnership.”
