Superdrug gives further Covid-19 update

Superdrug has said it will be working to keep stores open theroughout the Covid-19 crisis where its business is necessary to support the local community.

However, it will not be opening stores when it does not have sufficient staff to operate them safely.

The health and beauty retailer will be reviewing the situation on a store by store basis early each day and customers will be able to see on its website and social channels which stores are operating. Those stores that open will be operating to the reduced hours of 10am to 5pm to give staff enough time for deep clean shops and stock shelves.

Superdrug has already introduced new safety measures in-store. These include two metre social distancing, perspex screens at the checkouts and pharmacy counter, extra card only tills, the removal of testers and limiting the number of customers per store at any one time.

The retailer is also supporting its staff by introducing a package that includes paying them in full if they are not able to work through either sickness, self-isolation, being a parent, being a vulnerable person, or due to store or service closures. This will also apply to staff who live with or care for someone in a vulnerable group.

Peter Macnab, chief executive of Superdrug, said: “We’ll continue to commit as much resource as possible to our online services, to help reduce the number of visits customers need to make to a physical store. We’ll be ensuring the items restocked online are essential products, and whilst there might be some delays due to current demand, our distribution team have been working hard so that we can fulfil orders as quickly as possible.

“As a non-dispensing pharmacy, we feel that this is the right course of action to fulfil our duty to customers, colleagues and communities, whilst keeping everyone safe.”
