World's first Google 'store' opens in London
Google has opened a pop-up store in a London branch of Currys and PC World. Officially known as the Chromezone, the 285 sq ft store within a store' only sells Google's Chromebook laptop and a handful of accessories.
Google’s research has shown that 80% of laptop sales are sold through shops so if Chromezone is successful it could result in Google opening permanent 'bricks and mortar' shops. Google said on its blog: "Many things in life, like football and rock music, are best experienced in person. Chromebooks are no exception."
Until now, the Chromebook has only been available online through Amazon and PC World.
The pop-up shop will run for three months until Christmas. A second pop-up will open at Lakeside shopping centre on 7 October with more planned around the UK in the next few months.
