Work begins on John Lewis at Home in Ashford
John Lewis has confirmed that work will start on the build of its new £7 million John Lewis At Home store in Ashford next week.
The new shop is expected to open its doors before the end of 2013 and will create 125 jobs.
Spanning over two floors with selling areas totalling 39 000 sq ft, the store will include a customer café and around 200 car parking spaces.
The John Lewis At Home format focuses on furniture, furnishing accessories, electrical and home technology but customers will also be able to access a wider John Lewis assortment from johnlewis.com via customer online ordering points throughout the store.
Andy Street, managing director, John Lewis, said: "We are delighted that work is getting underway to open our doors in Ashford this year. It’s an ideal fit for us in terms of both location and catchment and we look forward to becoming part of the local community, providing shoppers with access to our inspiring products, great value and exceptional service."
The John Lewis At Home concept was first launched in Poole in October 2009 and was followed by shops in Croydon, Chichester, Newbury, Tamworth, Chester, Swindon, Tunbridge Wells and Ipswich.
The At Home shop in Ashford will take the number of John Lewis shops in Kent to three. The retailer has been an anchor tenant in the Bluewater shopping centre since 1999 while the John Lewis At Home Tunbridge Wells opened in 2010.
