Waterstones unveils latest store concept

Bookseller Waterstones has unveiled a new store concept at Sheffield’s Meadowhall shopping centre.

The retailer has upsized its existing store by a third to 4,900 square feet and developed a new design for the space.

The shop features a contemporary look with a light-coloured timber interior and is now able to accommodate a wider range of merchandise such as gifts, games, diaries and calendars. It also has a large area dedicated to celebrating local writers, poets and history.

To mark the opening, Barnsley author Milly Johnson cut the ribbon and met guests at a book signing.

Paul Ranson, Waterstones bookshop manager, said: “We are so proud of our new bookshop and we are excited to welcome our loyal customers back to our revamped store in Meadowhall. Following Meadowhall’s recent transformation, it was important our own brand aligned with the new look and appeal of the centre, and we have worked hard to create an inspiring new store for all the family to visit and enjoy.”

Waterstones is the latest in a line-up of 35 new brands that have opened at Meadowhall following the £60 million works to improve the centre.

Richard Crowther, asset manager for British Land, added: “Waterstones’ investment to create their latest concept store at Meadowhall reflects the wider transformation of the centre. Like Meadowhall, the new store is lighter, brighter and more contemporary, creating an environment that will encourage visitors to dwell for longer and return more often.”
