Waitrose wins Gold at Chelsea Flower Show
Waitrose has won a gold medal and a Best in Show nomination at this weeks Chelsea Flower Show for its stand with the National Farmers Union.
The event, which is celebrating its centenary this year, marks the third time that the Waitrose and NFU stand has won a gold medal.
The 'Celebrating British' display features seasonal British-grown produce, plants and flowers that are available to buy in the grocer’s shops. The stand has been featured on Chris Evans' Radio 2 Show, and on BBC One.
Sue Steptoe, Waitrose buying manager for horticulture, said: "Both Waitrose and the NFU have been excited about working together for this and we're all very proud to receive a gold medal from the judges."
The Chelsea Flower Show has also been a major event for the Peter Jones store in nearby Sloane Square which like Waitrose is part of the John Lewis Group.
The retailer said the show had brought crowds of customers to the store which hosted a series of floral-themed activities and displays, including a pop-up gallery dedicated to the Chelsea Flower Show through the decades.
"We've seen increased footfall this week and our Chelsea afternoon tea has sold really well," added Rachael James, the store’s PR and marketing co-ordinator.
