Waitrose poll reveals nation's top festive desserts
The traditional Christmas Pudding is still the most served dessert on Christmas Day according to a new survey by Waitrose.
The ‘Traditional Treats’ survey polled 1,000 members of the public in an effort to discover the nation's favourite Christmas desserts and baked gifts.
The results show that the top five puddings also include chocolate Yule log, mince pies, trifle and Christmas cake.
East Anglia topped the poll for being the biggest follower of Christmas tradition with 92% of households serving Christmas pudding as their main Christmas dessert.
Looking across the UK, the over 35s were found to be more likely to choose Christmas pudding as their top dessert, but those aged 18-34 would rather finish their meal with a chocolate Yule log.
Of those who choose not to have a traditional sweet on 25 December, 7% prefer desserts such as ice cream, cheesecake, fruit and trifle.
Continental desserts were also found to be popular amongst the younger consumers with 15% of people aged 34 or under saying they will serve Stollen cake at Christmas compared to 10% of those aged over 35.
Meanwhile, 63% of people agreed that being given a homemade dessert or baked goods as a gift showed a lot of thought and effort, yet only 26% of people had ever given a homemade dessert themselves.
