Waitrose opens first Baker Street store
Waitrose has opened its first shop in Londons Baker Street area as it continues to increase its presence in Westminster.
The Portman Square Little Waitrose was unveiled by City of Westminster Councillor, Karen Scarborough.
The convenience shop is the ninth Waitrose store in the district. Westminster Waitrose branches now employ more than 1,000 people, including the 56 staff it recruited for the new store after it received more than 400 applications.
Scarborough, said: “Little Waitrose Portman Square is a great addition to the area. Waitrose is a highly regarded food retailer and the shop will also boost local employment. It will be welcomed by both local residents and the huge number of business employees in the vicinity.”
Steve Roome, store manager at Waitrose Portman Square, added: “Our brand is now more accessible than ever before for Westminster shoppers. It’s fitting that we are able to mark our latest opening by announcing that we now employ more than 1,000 people at Waitrose shops across the district.”
