Waitrose launches iPad version of customer newspaper
The upmarket grocer has made the weekly publication available free to download from iTunes, as it looks to extend the magazine's reach to customers who browse online for food inspiration and buy their groceries using tablets.
The iPad version replicates Waitrose Weekend’s mix of news, features, recipes and product offers and links to Waitrose’s Facebook page as well as video recipes on Waitrose TV and YouTube. It will also direct customers to Waitrose.com to buy any of the ingredients or products featured.
The publication’s editor-in-chief, Ollie Rice, said: "We are delighted to be able to extend the reach of Waitrose Weekend to even more shoppers, not just those who pick up a copy in branch.
"The launch of the app is a reflection of the way our customers are searching for recipe inspiration and choosing to shop with us. It offers them a fully interactive experience with links to video recipes on Waitrose TV and YouTube, to our Facebook page and to our website. Waitrose Weekend is an essential read for those looking for the latest food news and inspiration from our experts."
Waitrose Weekend, which launched in March 2010 as the first free newspaper published by a retailer, has a weekly print run of 350,000 copies.
