Waitrose launches Click & Collect lockers at Southampton Airport Parkway station

Southampton Airport Parkway has become the latest location on the transport network to trial Waitrose’s lockers for online grocery orders.

Working in partnership with the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance, the supermarket has introduced the lockers at Southampton Airport Parkway station, one of the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance's flagship stations.

The automated lockers enable orders to be stored in ambient, chilled and frozen temperature-controlled conditions. The lockers can be refilled several times in a day.

Customers placing orders online are sent a text message with a PIN to enable them to drive up to the Click & Collect lockers, enter the PIN and collect their shopping. Delivery options for the service are the same as those available for orders collected at Waitrose branches, and orders placed before 11.45am can be collected the next day.

Tony Rivenell, Waitrose head of omni-channel, said: “It is great to be working with the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance to bring Waitrose’s innovative Click & Collect lockers to Southampton Airport Parkway, and we hope that customers and commuters in Southampton find them to be a time-saving and convenient solution that fit in with their busy lifestyles. The growth of the “transumer” is a key retailing trend at the moment, and the Waitrose lockers are designed to appeal to those who want to shop while they are on the go.”

Other transport hubs taking part in this trial include TFL London Underground Stations Chorleywood and Ickenham, with further locations to be announced in the coming weeks. Southampton Airport Parkway is the first location out of London to have the lockers installed.

The automated lockers are Waitrose’s latest innovation to increase its grocery Click & Collect offering.
