Waitrose appoints new wine buyer
Waitrose has appointed Maria Elener to its award-winning wine buying team.
Elener has worked in the wine business since 1995 when she joined Majestic on its graduate trainee scheme. Her time in the trade has included two years working and learning Spanish in South America.
Having worked for Waitrose Wine Direct since June, Elener has also worked as a buyer for the Co-operative and in the tastings and events team at The Wine Society, before joining the Waitrose wine buying team in September.
In her new role, Elener will be responsible for buying wine from Italy, South Africa, the Loire, Eastern Europe and also the ‘Rest of the World’ category, which covers emerging regions.
Waitrose buying manager Ken Mackay said: "We are thrilled to welcome Maria to our team. She brings a wealth of commercial experience and a deep passion for wine with her. In her time at Waitrose Wine Direct she has made a real impact and I know she will be a huge asset to the Waitrose wine buying team."
