Vision Express welcomes new intake of apprentices
As the UK celebrates National Apprenticeship Week, the youngsters are embarking on a 13-month employer-embedded programme working towards a Level 2, Intermediate Apprenticeship in Health (Optical Retail), which is the equivalent to five GCSEs.
The hirings form part of the optical retailer’s strategy to open up grassroots job pathways following its commitment to The 5% Club in which it pledged to have 5% of its UK workforce comprising young people on structured training schemes over the next five years.
As the new recruits begin their training, Vision Express has opened applications to its Spring apprentice intake which will offer a further 20 places on the nationally recognised scheme.
Vision Express chief executive Jonathan Lawson said: “It’s fantastic to have our new recruits on board. They should be extremely proud of themselves for securing a place on this apprenticeship programme, given the volume and calibre of candidates who applied. We are really pleased with the programme we have developed, and hope the apprentices take full advantage of the training and career opportunities available to them.
