Val Gooding to stand down as Sainsbury's non-exec
Val Gooding is to stand down as non-executive director at Sainsburys following her appointment as Chairman of Premier Farnell, the Leeds-based supplier of electronic products.
Gooding will relinquish her role at the Sainsbury's AGM in July.
David Tyler, Sainbury's chairman, said "I would like to thank Val for the tremendous contribution she has made as a Non-Executive Director since January 2007. Her breadth of experience has been invaluable to the Board and I wish her every success as Chairman of Premier Farnell."
Val Gooding said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my four and a half years on Sainsbury's Board and it is with some sadness that I have decided to step down due to my increased time commitments at Premier Farnell. It has been a pleasure to have been part of one of the UK's most successful retail turnarounds and I leave knowing that Sainsbury's is well positioned for further success in the future."
Gooding, who has been recognised in the Fortune list of most powerful women in world business, succeeds Sir Peter Gershon as Chairman at Premier Farnell. Gershon will be retiring in June after 7 years on the Board.
