Uniqlo owner launches new company to advance digital innovation
Fast Retailing, the Japanese company behind the Uniqlo clothing stores, has embarked on a joint venture with Accenture Japan to launch a new company to advance the firmÂ’s digital innovation.
Called Wearex Co, the company will be headed up by Fast Retailing group officer and chief information officer, Hajime Tamaoki, and will be run from Fast Retailing's Tokyo head office.
The new company will build Fast Retailing’s mobile and cloud technology capacity as it looks to advance digitization and merge the in-store and virtual store experience for customers.
In a statement Fast Retailing said: “The new initiative aims to allow customers to access and purchase products anywhere, anytime to realize an all new shopping experience.”
Wearex will launch with around fifty staff who will initially focus on Japan before extending their reach worldwide.
