Toy retailer increases plans for expansion following strong sales performance
The EntertainerÂ’s strong second quarter trading performance has led to three new locations being added to its already ambitious plans for expansion.
For the 28 weeks leading to August 11 2012, the company’s total like-for-like sales were up 7.9% in stores and 52.3% online– a total of 12.3% on the same period last year.Taking into account new stores that have opened in the past 12 months, the figure leaps to 31.7%.
The new additions exceed the one new store per month average achieved by the business in 2011 and bring the total number of openings for 2012 up to 15.
The move comes as The Entertainer continues to defy flagging footfall on the British high street with its sixth consecutive quarter of like-for-like growth.
Founder and owner of The Entertainer Gary Grant said: “This is a fantastic performance for the first half of the year and a testament to the strength of the business and the hard work of our teams.
“We are confident about carrying this momentum into the crucial second half of the year to make 2012 The Entertainer’s most successful year yet.
“Our strong performance has allowed us to announce that we’ll be opening a total of 15 stores this year, three more than our initial target of 12. In addition, three existing branches will be relocated in order to embrace the company’s latest shop design and branding.”
Looking ahead, the company will create a total of 150+ new jobs by the end of the year. There is also a new website due to launch in time for Christmas and the new online services will include 30 minute Click and Collect, and 90 minute home delivery.
