Third record week in a row for John Lewis
This figure is 15.5% up on the same week last year and 11.4% higher than the equivalent weekly figure from 2007. With customers clearly still in the mood for Christmas spending, records were beaten across the business last week with online sales still very strong, showing a 7% increase on the same time last year.
This is the third week in a row that sales have topped the £100m mark. Reports from branches across the country show that customers have defied the weather and have continued to shop for fashions, gifts and home furnishings in advance of entertaining guests.
Andrew Murphy, Director of Operational Development for John Lewis says, “This new record week shows how much customers value John Lewis for our range of quality products, excellent customer service and our 'Never Knowingly Undersold' price matching promise. There is a real festive buzz in all our shops as customers are buying last minute presents, with many choosing home technology gifts such as digital cameras and radios. The cold weather also means that sales of fashion, in particular childrenswear, are seeing record-breaking figures.”
