Tesco announces 2010 will be biggest ever Christmas

'We are backing Christmas this year and we are playing to winÂ’

Richard Brasher, Tesco UK Commercial and Trading Director, commented,”We have the biggest range, are opening our stores for more hours and are providing more staff to help our customers than ever before.'

This year, seasonal space is 30 per cent in Tesco Extra Stores - an increase of 5% on last year. Tesco has seen a 20% year on year growth in its non food Christmas business and expect their busiest shopping day to be Thursday 23rd December.

On a logistical note, 16,500 extra trolleys will be allocated across 147 Extra stores by the first week of December.
Tesco expects to sell 750,000 turkeys and 2,000 tonnes of sprouts. And to wash it all down, 1 million bottles of Champagne in the two weeks before Christmas

The top selling toys this Christmas are expected to include Toy Story Space Ranger Buzz Light Year, Lego Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer and Kung Zhu Hamsters.
