Supermarket chain Booths on the up
Supermarket chain Booths has bucked the trend and enjoyed an increase in both sales and profits for the year to April 4, helped by a television advertising campaign in 2008 that delivered its best-ever Christmas trading.
The family-owned business based in the North West reported an 8.7 per cent rise in pre-tax profit to £7.5m on the back of turnover rising from £243.6 million last year to £254 million.
Edwin Booth, chairman of Booths, states: “The severity of the economic downturn last year spooked shoppers and during the autumn the company experienced a significant downturn in consumer spending."
