Strong online performance drives sales for John Lewis
Online sales up 23.7% on top of a significant increase a year ago.
Sales for John Lewis in week 16 2013-14 were £101.45m, compared to £91.68m for the same week 2012-13.
Chris Hooper, Head of Retail Change at John Lewis, commented: "If the launch of the Christmas television advert was a sure sign that we are into the Christmas trading period, the fact was fully reinforced by our reaching the £100m barrier for the first time this year, the earliest week we have delivered this. The colder temperatures further set the mood and the outcome was an excellent 10.7% uplift year on year."
Week 16 sales figures for Waitrose were £119.18m, compared to 2012-13, an increase of 6.6% (excluding petrol).
