Sports Direct appoints workers’ representative to board

Sports Direct has announced that Cally Price is to join its board as a non-executive workforce director after being elected by the workforce as the next workers’ representative.

She will take up her position on 1 January.

Price is a store manager at Sports Direct’s store in Cardiff Bay although she originally started with the company as a zero hours worker in July 2007.

Following a competitive application process, Price was elected as the company’s next workers’ representative in September. She will assume her role as workers’ representative when current incumbent, Alex Balacki, completes his term on 1 May, although her board position will start earlier.

David Daly, Sports Direct chairman, said: “We are very proud to be one of the first companies in the UK to have a director appointed from our workforce. This appointment is a natural progression for the board following the excellent contributions made by Alex Balacki as our first workers’ representative to the board. We are now looking forward to working with Cally as both our workers’ representative and a full board member.”
