Spirited Wines acquires Nicolas UK
Spirited Wines has acquired wine chain Nicolas UK from French drinks giant Castel for an undisclosed sum.
Benoît Thouvenin, owner of Spirited Wines and the former head of operations at Nicolas UK, said only 25% of the 43 Nicolas shops would trade under the Nicolas name with the remainder being rebranded as Spirited Wine stores.
In an interview with Harpers Wine & Spirit Trade Review, Thouvenin said the changes to the fascia and range of wines would be implemented "slowly" but would be be completed by Christmas 2012.
Founded in 2010, Spirited Wines operates 13 shops outside of London while all of Nicolas UK's franchise shops are located within the M25.
