Spar to become main supplier to The People's Supermarket
The PeopleÂ’s Supermarket has embarked on a supply partnership with the international convenience store chain Spar.
Under the partnership agreement A.F Blakemore Spar will become the main wholesale grocery supplier to the London co-operative supermarket, and will also implement a development plan to include a new shop layout, new refrigeration, upgraded IT and till systems, as well as training and marketing support.
Kate Bull, CEO of The People’s Supermarket said: "Working with A F Blakemore gives us the opportunity to not only secure our future in Holborn but also develop a new form of social franchising, which should enable us to work with other communities and create new People’s Supermarkets across the country."
The redesign of the shop will begin within the next few days, with the intention that work is completed in time for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The new partnership has resulted in The People’s Supermarket ending its current supplier agreement with NISA. Andrew J Mouse, Nisa group sales director said: "We have enjoyed our working relationship and regret that it has come to an end."
He added: "It is a business with noble goals which shares much common ground with a community-focused business such as ours. We wish its management team and the company’s volunteers the very best of luck in their future endeavours."
