Slight increase in week one for John Lewis
The 1.2% increase in sales compared to last year was not large but the company is pleased it is in ‘positive territory’ for the start of its new financial year.
The strongest performers were childrenswear +5%, textiles and carpets at +3% and cooking and dining at +2%.
On Electricals and Home Technology, the strength came from small electrical, IT, audio & telecoms and white goods, which all made it to double figures. Finally, johnlewis.com notched up +17% with a similar pattern of trade from a merchandise perspective as the shops.
