Simba names Allan Leighton as chairman
Online mattress retailer Simba has appointed Allan Leighton as chairman.
Leighton has also invested £1 million in the company. Other high-profile investors in the company include Nigel Wray and Sir John Hegarty as well investment companies Henderson Global and Numis Securities.
Commenting on his appointment, Leighton said: “Simba has created an innovative business that is sharply focused on delivering a narrow range of best in class sleep solutions, disrupting and with ambition to take brand ownership of the growing sleep market.”
Steve Reid, chief executive of Simba, said securing Leighton as chairman represented a significant coup for the business. He added: “A world class retail veteran there is no-one better placed to fuel our next exciting phase of growth.”
Currently chairman of The Co-op, Leighton is a former chief executive of Asda and previous chairman of Royal Mail.
Launched in 2016, Simba has sold around 200,000 mattresses with sales totalling around £130 million to date.
