Screwfix to open fourth distribution centre
Construction work on the new 562,000 square foot facility will start this month. It will initially create 200 jobs and this will rise to 700 over the next five years.
This fourth warehouse will join Screwfix’s other distribution and fulfilment centres in Prologis Park Stafford and Trentham which service the stock needs of its 490 strong store network. The retailer is currently opening one new store a week and the centre will support its growth plan.
Martin Lee, supply chain, logistics and IT director at Screwfix, said: “The decision to construct a warehouse near Lichfield was taken to ensure we have the logistics infrastructure to support the needs of our expanding business. Adding one store per week to our network means we need to make sure we have the stock distribution in place to enable our busy trade customers to get what they want, when they need it from the nearest Screwfix, so they can get back to the job as quickly as possible.”
Screwfix said the facility is aiming to be as sustainable as possible with the use of technology such as solar PV panels, LED lighting and rainwater harvesting.
The new warehouse will be operated by Wincanton on behalf of Screwfix and recruitment for the new roles will begin in September 2017.
