Schuh to open new European distribution centre

Footwear retailer Schuh is to open a new 245,000 sq ft European distribution centre in Scotland.

The facility in the J4M8 complex in Bathgate will open next summer when operations move from the retailer’s existing 50,000 sq ft hub in nearby Livingston.

Mark Crutchley, Schuh finance director, said: “Our business has expanded rapidly over the last three years and we anticipate this will continue for the next few years, both within the UK and beyond. We needed to ensure we had the appropriate infrastructure to support this growth and we are delighted to have secured these premises in West Lothian where we currently employ 465 people.”

The distribution hub is being supported by West Lothian Council and Scottish Enterprise, with funds for the acquisition and fit-out of the warehouse building being provided by Bank of Scotland.
