Sales rise at American Apparel
US fashion brand American Apparel has reported that sales increased 15% to $56.3 million last month taking total net sales to $157.9 million fro the three months ending 31 December.
Comparable store sales increased 12% and wholesale net sales increased 25% during the month.
Dov Charney, chairman and CEO said: "In December, we continued to build momentum in our business. Our sales exceeded plan in all channels and we saw good progress in our wholesale channel across a broad spectrum of customers."
He added: "Our retail sales increases were also broad based with notably large increases in the US, in all Asian markets, and in Australia. Our product is resonating well with our customers both in stores and online."
The news will be encouraging for the company which last year staved off a potential bankruptcy after securing $14.9 million in new financing from a group of Canadian investors.
In the last quarter American Apparel opened three new stores in the as well as two concessions in Selfridges department stores.
