Sainsbury's to launch mobile phone network with Vodafone
Sainsburys is joining forces with Vodafone to launch its own UK mobile phone network, Mobile by Sainsburys, as means of driving customer loyalty.
Run as a joint venture between the supermarket and Vodafone UK, the network will combine Sainsbury’s brand, customer insight and retail distribution with Vodafone’s technology and network. The service will be targeted at Sainsbury’s customers both in store and online.
Launching later this summer, Sainsbury’s said the network will reward customer loyalty, and offer “great quality value-for-money mobile products together with attractive offers” as well as Nectar points.
The 50/50 joint venture will be led by a management team of mobile, retail and marketing experts, made up of key personnel from both Sainsbury's and Vodafone.
Justin King, Sainsbury’s chief executive said: “We are delighted to announce this partnership. Together with Vodafone, we’ll be able to develop mobile products and services that represent great value for Sainsbury’s customers.”
Guy Laurence, Vodafone UK chief executive added: “Both businesses will capitalise on their respective strengths in this venture to offer an exciting product range to customers.”
