Sainsbury's to cut up to 2,000 jobs
The supermarket is looking to make 1,400 payroll and human resources staff redundant. It is also carrying a restructure at Sainsbury’s bank and Argos where a further 600 jobs could be affected.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “The UK grocery market is changing at a rapid pace and it’s crucial that we transform the way we operate to meet future challenges and continue to provide customers with the best in class service.
“Following a comprehensive review, we are proposing some updates to our HR structures and systems as well as other changes to a number of other support roles, subject to consultation.”
Earlier this year, Sainsbury’s said it would cut 400 jobs and also announced that some workers would be asked to change their working hours as part of plans to stop night shift work in some shops.
Sainsbury's is currently working through a three-year plan to £500 million.
