Sainsbury's introduces Chinese wine
The Changyu Noble Dragon Red is a Cabernet Gernischt/Cabernet Sauvignon blend from the Yantai region on the coastal Shandong Peninsula. The supermarket will also be launching a white wine next month.
Georgina Haughton, Sainsbury’s wine buyer for South Africa, South America & China, said: “We know customers are keen to broaden their repertoire and we’ve been looking to some distinctive regions and countries for new additions to expand our range.
“China is now the second largest producer of grapes destined for wine production (ahead of France), so it’s great opportunity to do just that.”
Customers can expect to see more of these unusual wines from Sainsbury’s in the future as the supermarket has also announced plans to launch a Uruguayan Albarino into the range next month.
Haughton added: "Until quite recently, I’d say Uruguayan wine was one of the best kept secrets of South American wine production, so I’m excited that we’re able to bring this Albarino to our shelves. Albarino is such a distinctive, food-friendly grape and I think customers will really enjoy it as an introduction to wines from Uruguay.”
