Sainsbury's and Argos to recruit 11,500 temporary staff for festive period

Sainsbury’s and Argos are looking to recruit 11,500 temporary staff members to work in the run-up to Christmas.

Some 5.500 jobs will be available at Sainsbury’s and 6,000 at Argos. Furthermore, the two retailers are offering extra hours to existing staff who may want additional work in the period.

Roles with Sainsbury’s will range from positions for café and counter staff to online assistants, drivers and cyclists to help deliver festive orders to customers. The supermarket’s jobs will be subject to a contract for up to three months with an average of 15 contracted hours per week.

Meanwhile, Argos is looking for 5,000 customer advisors and stock assistants to help meet customer demand over the Black Friday and Christmas trading period. It is also seeking to recruit 1,000 delivery drivers. The retailer will offer the majority of workers 20 hours per week.

Angie Risley, Sainsbury’s group HR director, said: “Black Friday and Christmas are busy times in retail and it’s really exciting to work with us during the festive period. Working at Sainsbury’s you could be serving customers in our stores or providing welcome refreshment in our cafes. If you enjoy helping people, like working in a team with friendly, enthusiastic colleagues and want to learn new skills, then this is the right job for you.”

Sainsbury’s said some seasonal roles across both Sainsbury’s and Argos have the potential to become permanent where vacancies exist.
