Royal boost for West End retailers
The organisation responsible for the management and promotion of London’s Bond Street, Oxford Street and Regent Street, says the arrival of HRH Prince George was credited with helping to create a 3.7% year-on-year increase in footfall across the core West End in July 2013, while the West End saw sales climb by 6% compared with the same month the year before.
Jace Tyrrell, deputy chief executive New West End Company, said: “2013 saw London welcome 17 million international visitors, and forecasts show 2015 will see even more drawn to our capital.
“A Royal birth always signals great pomp and pageantry, and it is when tourists see the UK at its very best.
“For the businesses and attractions which help shape the experience of visitors, it is a real privilege to be part of such a special event.”
