Pumpkin Patch appoints administrators
Pumpkin Patch, the childrens clothing retailer, has pulled the plug on its loss-making UK operations.
The Reading based firm which operates 36 stores in the UK and employs 400 staff has appointed Deloitte as administrators.
Deloitte said it had closed five stores, making 60 employees redundant, though the rest of the stores would continue to trade while options are explored.
Pumpkin Patch’s parent company is based in New Zealand. The administration only affects UK operations and the company will continue trading online and in non-UK businesses in Ireland and internationally.
Daniel Butters from Deloitte said the company had "suffered as a result of the unprecedented and prolonged downturn being experienced in the UK retail sector".
He added: "We encourage all parties to remain supportive while we continue to trade the business, thus providing the best possible platform for us to preserve jobs and value for all creditors."
