Primark opens new store in Canterbury
Discount fashion giant Primark has opened its 163rd UK store at the Whitefriars shopping centre in Canterbury.
Set over three floors, the new 40,300 sq ft shop replaces BHS as an anchor tenant at the centre where retailers also include Fenwick, Marks & Spencer and Boots.
A spokesman for Primark said: “Canterbury has long been an established and desirable destination for shoppers, which combined with its large student population, Whitefriars Canterbury presented an excellent opportunity for a Primark store showcasing the latest fashion at affordable prices.”
The new store was opened by Canterbury’s Lord Mayor Ann Taylor.
Chris Parfitt, director of shopping centres at TIAA Henderson Real Estate, added: “The opening of Primark in Whitefriars Canterbury reinforces the centre’s position as more of a ‘retail destination’ than shopping centre.
“Whitefriars Canterbury is in the heart of East Kent and with a growing catchment spreading across the region, the introduction of such desirable retail brands like Primark will be sure to attract even more shoppers.”
