Poundland exceeds £1 million fundraising target for Macmillan Cancer Support
Single price retailer Poundland has exceeded its £1 million fundraising target for charity partner Macmillan Cancer Support.
Having chosen to support Macmillan back in 2009, Poundland has now raised over £1,035,000 for the cancer care charity after staff took on activities such as the 24-hour Three Peaks Challenge, the London Marathon and cycling from London to Paris. Other fundraising initiatives included in-store raffles and dress-down days as well as selling charity products to customers.
Poundland and Macmillan celebrated the milestone with a road show which visited some of the top fundraising stores around the country, including the UK’s number one fundraising store in Sunderland, as well as the retailer’s head office in Willenhall.
Poundland chief executive Jim McCarthy said: “I am delighted that we have reached and even exceeded our fundraising target for Macmillan. Our customers and colleagues have voted to continue to support Macmillan on a continuous basis since 2009, and we have seen some fantastic members of our team going above and beyond for a charity that has touched many of us personally. I am proud that we’ve been able to hand over a cheque for over £1 million to continue to fund the vital work Macmillan does.”
Lynda Thomas, director of fundraising at Macmillan Cancer Support, added: “Huge congratulations to everyone at Poundland who has worked so incredibly hard to raise this money for Macmillan. We are grateful for your ongoing support, and the money you have raised will go a long way to helping Macmillan to ensure that no one faces cancer alone.”
