Poundland celebrates its 400th store opening
Poundland, Europes biggest single price discount retailer, is proud to be celebrating a milestone in 2012 with the opening of its 400th store in Haringey, London on Saturday 28 April.
The Haringey store, a former Peacocks unit, has created 30 new jobs including sales assistants and managerial roles which is a positive employment boost to the area.
Tim McDonnell, Retail Director at Poundland, says: “We are delighted to be opening our 400th store and we feel Haringey is an ideal town to celebrate this major milestone. We are proud to bring the unique Poundland retail shopping proposition to thousands of our customers, by continually expanding our store base and creating jobs with positive employment prospects and delivering amazing value every day.”
The opening will see Emmerdale’s Mark Charnock, who plays ‘Marlon Dingle’, kick off the celebrations for the 400th store opening by cutting the ribbon and welcoming shoppers to a family fun day. Macmillan, Poundland’s charity of the year will also be present helping to raise money for this important cause.
Tim McDonnell continues: “Poundland has a rapid store expansion strategy this financial year to open at least 60 new stores, creating an incredible 2,000 new jobs. The number of stores being opened is a reflection of the irresistible Poundland shopping experience which over 4 million customers enjoy every week.
“Poundland will also reach another milestone this year, with the opening of our new southern 218,000 square foot distribution centre, based in Hertfordshire. The distribution centre will create up to 250 jobs and will be used as a regional facility to service the stores in the South East of England.”
